Ellie Jane Goulding was born in Hereford England on December 30 1986. Tracey Goulding Summers, her mother worked in a store. Arthur Goulding is the father. Goulding has three siblings: A sister Isabel whom is more senior, a brother Alex and another sister Jordan. Alex is her brother's younger. Alex plays the guitar. Alex also is part of a Hereford-based band. Her mother was a big advocate for her music as a child. When she reached the age of nine old she began learning the clarinet. She started writing herself songs around 14 years old, however it wasn't until she was in university that she began to seriously pursue the art of songwriting. Goulding became attracted to electronic music during the time she studied. On MySpace Goulding was in contact with Frankmusik who was the producer of records and the two of them came up with their own style of folktronica. Jamie Lillywhite was a scout who discovered her during that time. He started out as manager but later moved on to become A.&R. at the university contest. Lillywhite introduced her to Starsmith the company that produces music that was integral to her November 15th 2009 debut single, under the Sheets. Starsmith worked alongside the singer on Lights. The fact that under the Sheets was released on Neon Gold Records (an indie label) She already had signed a contract with Polydor Records.
